Full Bill

WHEREAS,

LaSalle College High School Explorers Football Team captured their second consecutive Philadelphia Catholic League (PCL) AAAA Football Championship with a 35-28 win over the rival Hawks from St. Joseph Preparatory; and

WHEREAS,

On Saturday, November 28, 2009 the Explorers from LaSalle College High School defeated the Eagles from George Washington High School to win the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District XII AAAA Football Championship by a score of 31-20. With the victory, the Explorers avenged last year's loss to the Eagles in the return of the "City Championship" game; and

WHEREAS,

LaSalle College High School defeated State College High School to claim the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Division AAAA Football Championship on Saturday, December 19, 2009, the Explorers won 24-7 in snowy conditions at Hershey Park Stadium; and

WHEREAS,

LaSalle Head Coach Drew Gordon was also named the Co-Coach of the Year by the Philadelphia Daily News and has led LaSalle to three PCL Titles in his four seasons as head coach; and

WHEREAS,

Thirteen members of the LaSalle College High School Varsity Football Team were honored as members of the Pennsylvania AAAA Football All-State Team selected by the Pennsylvania Football News; and

WHEREAS,

Quarterback Drew Loughery, Wide Receiver Sam Feleccia, and Offensive Lineman Steve Szostak were named to the Pennsylvania Football AAAA All-State First Team on offense while Defensive Lineman Steve Sinnott and Linebacker Ryan Saraceni were named to the First Team on defense, Drew Loughery was also named the Football AAAA Offensive Player of the Year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,

That Council does hereby honor and commend LaSalle College High School Explorers Football Team on winning the City Catholic League and District XII State Championship

FURTHER RESOLVED,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the LaSalle College High School Football Team as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
