Honoring Seamus Boyle.

WHEREAS,

Seamus Boyle and his family immigrated to the United States from County Armagh, Ireland in 1954, settling in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS,

Seamus is a graduate of Saint Matthew Grade School and Father Judge High School; and

WHEREAS,

Mr. Boyle was sworn in as a member of the Monsignor Thomas J. Rilley, Division 39, of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) in 1971. The Ancient Order of Hibernians is both the oldest and largest Irish Catholic fraternal organization in the United States; and

WHEREAS

, Over the past 30 years, Seamus has held numerous elected offices on the division, county, state and national level with the Hibernians; and

WHEREAS

, Seamus' decades of distinguished service and dedication to the AOH culminated in his election in 2008 as National President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians; and

WHEREAS

, Seamus is extremely active in organized labor circles in addition to his many responsibilities with the AOH. He was a member of the Metropolitan District Council of Carpenters for 47 years and held the position of Business Representative of Local 122 for 14 years; and

WHEREAS,

March 14, 2010, marks the occasion of the 240th annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade in the City of Philadelphia. It is the hard work and devotion of the Saint Patrick's Observance Committee that keeps alive this historic parade. In addition, Seamus has been selected as the Grand Marshal of this year's event; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,

That we hereby congratulate Seamus Boyle on the distinct honor of his selection as Grand Marshal of the 2010 Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

RESOLVED FURTHER

, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Seamus Boyle, further evidencing the grateful appreciation and deep admiration of this legislative body.
