WHEREAS,

Día del Niño

Children's Day

, is an annual event at Philadelphia's Please Touch Museum which provides an opportunity for youth in the Latino community, as well as all of Philadelphia's children, to explore youth activities across cultures and across the world; and

WHEREAS

,

Día del Niño

offers Philadelphia's children the opportunity to enjoy and explore a variety of activities, such as music, dancing and games, which engage children through interactive educational opportunities; and

WHEREAS,

The 2010

Día del Niño

will celebrate Philadelphia's cultural diversity within the arts and the Latino community by offering Aztec and Flamenco dancing, Puerto Rican folk dances, a puppet theater with children's stories, and also a unique opportunity for children to experience television reporting through an interactive reporting studio provided by Telemundo; and

WHEREAS,

The 2nd Annual is sponsored by Telemundo Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Please Touch Museum, and a host of other contributing organizations including holaciudad!, Goya, HCCS, Kidz Partners, CHIP, McDonalds, Philadelphia Kixx, El Sol Newspaper, Mega, ASPIRA, Monarch House, Congress, TOGETHER Chilean Consulate, Cultural Roots Latin American, and the Puerto Rican Workshop; and

WHEREAS,

The 2nd Annual Día del Niño will take place on May 1st , 2010 at the Philadelphia Please Touch Museum.

THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,

That, May 1, 2010 be recognized as

Día del Niño

at the Please Touch Museum. We offer our sincerest gratitude to Telemundo Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Please Touch Museum for their continued dedication to providing Philadelphia's children with exciting cultural and educational activities. The annual

Día del Niño

event has inspired and educated children and families across Philadelphia and beyond, and we look forward to many more years of fun, commitment, and success!

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to WWSI Telemundo Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Please Touch Musuem as a token of appreciation from the Council of the City of Philadelphia.
