Full Bill

WHEREAS

, We welcome the new ownership of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News and wish for their success in the future; and

WHEREAS

, Gregory Osberg has been chosen to be the publisher and chief executive officer. Mr. Osberg is a native of the Philadelphia area and most recently president and worldwide publisher of Newsweek and Newsweek.com; and

WHEREAS

, While at Newsweek, Gregory Osberg was known for his use of digital media and with the use of his expertise we hope he will help lead Philadelphia to become one of the leaders in digital media world; and

WHEREAS

, We hope that the new owners of the Inquirer and Daily News will try to keep the current staffing levels at the company and work extremely hard in not laying off current employees. Even though we do not always agree with their editorial positions or news coverage of City Council, they are talented professionals who we would like to see kept working; and

WHEREAS

, We support Mr. Osberg's vision in turning the Inquirer and Daily News into the most successful local media company in the country; and

WHEREAS

, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News have a history in this City and we hope they stay as an independent form of information for the citizens of Philadelphia and the surrounding area; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,

We hereby welcome the new owners of Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

FURTHER RESOLVED,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to further evidencing the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
