Full Bill

WHEREAS, Ernest Jones has helped fund, coordinate and implement training activities in Philadelphia through his active leadership and advocacy for quality workforce development activities thereby contributing to the growth of a strong regional economy; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Jones brought together business and community leaders to solve urban problems while he was President of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition; and

WHEREAS, Ernest Jones also served as the first General Counsel to the Temple Legal Aid Office and Executive Director of Community Legal Services, Inc., the principal provider of legal services for the poor in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, He is involved with, and serves on the boards of numerous civic, business, academic and community based organizations, including the African American Museum, the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of SE Pennsylvania, the Center City District, and Thomas Jefferson University; and

WHEREAS, He formerly chaired the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and is a former member of the School Board and the Redevelopment Authority of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, He formerly served as a corporate director with Philadelphia National Bank, CoreStates Financial Corporation, and First Union Financial Corporation and currently serves as a director with UGI Corporation, United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, First Union Regional Foundation, the William Penn Foundation, The Philadelphia Contributionship, and Vector Security; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors Ernest E. Jones on his retirement as President and CEO of the Philadelphia Workforce Development Corporation.

FUTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ernest E. Jones as evidence of the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
