Full Bill

WHEREAS, Imhotep Institute Charter School is an African centered science, math, and technology learning center; and

WHEREAS, Imhotep Institute formed its first basketball team in its 2005-2006 season; and

WHEREAS, On September 19, 2008, Imhotep celebrated the opening of their first basketball court on school property; and

WHEREAS, In the 2008-2009 season, under the leadership of Head Coach Andre Noble, Imhotep was victorious in all but one game; and

WHEREAS, With the help of the assistant coaches Tahar Sutton, Charles Thomas, and Floyd Butler and the managers Princess Moon and Nateesha Johnson, the Imhotep Institute Charter High School Panthers were able to secure another Championship; and

WHEREAS, Imhotep went on to win the Philadelphia Public League Championship, District 12-2A and City Championship; and

WHEREAS, On March 26, 2011, Bryce Jordan Center from Imhotep helped clench a victory over Greensburg Central Catholic for a final score of 67-34; and

WHEREAS, Imhotep has been successful in capturing its second state title in three seasons; and

WHEREAS, Three players scored in the double digits - Khyree Wooten (12), Earl Brown (10), and Brandon Austin who also scored 10; and

WHEREAS, David Appolon had seven points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals and Erik Copes grabbed 13 boards; and

WHEREAS, Not only is Imhotep Institute Charter School the home of 2011 State Basketball Champions, they have succeeded in academics as well, boasting a very high graduation rate; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council hereby authorizes honors and recognizes Imhotep Institute Charter School as 2011 PIAA - Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association State Boys Basketball Champions.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Andre Noble as further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
