Full Bill

WHEREAS, On the heels of the football field and equipment shed being vandalized, the Overbrook Monarchs 65lb Team went on to have a spectacular 2011 season consisting of 8 wins and 1 loss. Most importantly, on Saturday, November 26, 2011 the Monarchs defeated the Plymouth Whitemarsh Spartans winning` the 65lb American Conference Championship; and

WHEREAS, Led by Head Coach Richard 'Bam' Carr, Offensive Coach Eric Edwards and Defensive Coach 'Coach Curt', the 21 member football team, closed out their final game of the season with an aggressive and unique offensive strategy. Mirroring a popular formation from the 1940's and 50's, the Monarchs offensive team ran a 'Single Wing' formation leaving the Plymouth Whitemarsh Spartans to regroup; and

WHEREAS, The Overbrook Monarchs embody the motto, 'The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.' Through this mindset, the Monarchs have instilled pride, teamwork, sportsmanship, quality work ethic, discipline and awareness in all their athletes; and

WHEREAS, Through the foundation of these guiding principles, the Monarchs have been successful in developing the next generation of leaders through athletic and academic achievement. With winning several conference championships in different weight classes and demanding excellence in the classroom, these coaches give our youth the opportunity to participate in an activity that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle on and off the field while preparing them for a productive future; now therefore

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and celebrates the Overbrook Monarchs Football Team on winning the 65lb. American Conference Championship by defeating the Plymouth Whitemarsh Spartans 27 to 0.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Richard 'Coach Bam' Carr as evidence of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
