Full Bill

WHEREAS, Georgie Woods was an outstanding community and civil rights leader; and

WHEREAS, His commitment and contribution to the City of Philadelphia is indelibly etched in the hearts and minds of residents throughout this great City; and

WHEREAS, Georgie Woods came to the City of Philadelphia from New York in 1953 to work as a disc jockey, bringing in to the City emerging talents of the era; and

WHEREAS, His encouragement to those who were marginalized is laudable; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the community wish to honor the Memory of Georgie Woods with a fitting tribute; now, therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. The “Robin Hood Dell East” located at Ridge Avenue and Huntingdon Drive is hereby named and designated as the “Georgie Woods Entertainment Center.”

A. The land (the “dell”) upon which the Georgie Woods Entertainment Center sits as well as the land surrounding it, shall continue in perpetuity to be known as “The Robin Hood Dell.”

SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect on June 18, 2015, representing the tenth (10th) anniversary of Georgie Woods' death.
