Full Bill

WHEREAS, The United States Congress annually recognizes March 30th as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated in October 1987 to honor the sacrifice of 646 brave Philadelphians who gave their lives in defense of freedom; and

WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial has served as a gathering place for countless veterans on Memorial Day and Veterans Day to share camaraderie and reflect on all who have served; and

WHEREAS, The Memorial not only honors the sacrifice of the brave soldiers who gave their lives in service to America, but also is a sanctuary of healing and remembrance for veterans and their families throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Advisory Fund, Inc. will hold its 25th Anniversary Commemoration on Friday, October 26th and Saturday, October 27TH ; now therefore, be it,

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes March 30th as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day and October 2012 as the 25th Anniversary of the dedication of the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Penn's Landing.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Advisory Fund, Inc. as evidence of the respect and admiration of this legislative body for their dedication to maintaining the memorial and the memories of the brave Philadelphians who gave their lives in defense of freedom.
