Full Bill

WHEREAS, Rufus O. Williams was born on June 27, 1922 and died on February 16th, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Rufus O. Williams, exemplified the qualities most in need in today's world. He was a loving and devoted husband for 50 years, a wonderful father and a proud and caring grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Rufus O. Williams, was a Philadelphia public school teacher and retired in 1985 from Sulzberger Junior High School in West Philadelphia; where he was on the faculty for thirty years; and

WHEREAS, Rufus O. Williams was employed by the Fairmount Park Commission for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Rufus served as a Recreation Center Leader during the evenings, and as a Day Camp Director during the summer; and

WHEREAS, Rufus was always coaching youth sports, taking children on trips, and sharing the joy of art; his devotion to children was limitless; now, therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. The play area currently designated as the “Cobbs Creek Playground," located at 63rd and Catharine Streets is hereby named as the “Rufus O. Williams Memorial Playground."

SECTION 2. The Ordinance should take effect immediately.
