Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Neumann Goretti Basketball Team led by Coach Carl Arrigale had an outstanding season finishing 28-3; and

WHEREAS, During the season, the Saints were undefeated in the Catholic League, extending their winning streak to 70-0, and earning their 4th straight Philadelphia Catholic League Championship. The team also won their 4th straight District 12 Class AAA City Title. Their season culminated with a win over the Montour Spartans, from Western Pennsylvania, the Saints 3rd straight PIAA Class AAA State Championship; and

WHEREAS, Led by seniors Bill Shank and Derrick Stewart, the team won the triple crown of boys high school basketball. Derrick was 1st team All Catholic, 2nd team All State, and 3rd team Philadelphia Daily News All City. He will continue playing basketball at Rider University in the Fall. Bill was 2nd team All Catholic and received an Honorable Mention for the Daily News All City. He was awarded a full scholarship to attend the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY; and

WHEREAS, Junior John Davis was named 1st team All State, 1st team All Catholic and 2nd team Philadelphia Daily News All City. Sophomore Ja'Quan Newton was recognized on the 1st team All State, 1st team All Catholic and 2nd team Philadelphia Daily News All City; and

WHEREAS, Neumann-Goretti was ranked #8 in the PowerAde FAB 50 East region and #20 in the Writers Poll Xcellent 25 High School Boys Basketball teams; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate Saints John Neumann Maria Goretti 2011-2012 Boys Basketball Team on winning the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship, District 12 Class AAA City Title, and the PIAA Class AAA State Championship.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Saints John Neumann Maria Goretti 2011-2012 Boys Basketball Team, further evidencing the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
