Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Liberty City Press publishes five local community and ethnic newspapers that strengthen the many communities and neighborhoods in the City of Philadelphia and celebrate its diversity; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Gay News (PGN) has been a powerful advocate for LGBT causes, as well as fostering exceptional journalism that serves the needs and interest of Philadelphia's gay community; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Sunday Sun has been a powerful advocate for African American causes, as well as fostering exceptional journalism that serves the needs and interest of Philadelphia's African American community; and

WHEREAS, Al Dia has been a powerful advocate for Latino causes, as well as fostering exceptional journalism that serves the needs and interest of Philadelphia's Spanish-speaking community; and

WHEREAS, The Jewish Exponent has been a powerful advocate for Jewish causes, as well fostering exceptional journalism that serves the needs and interest of Philadelphia's Jewish community; and

WHEREAS, The Metro Chinese Weekly and the Metro Viet News have been powerful advocates for Asian American causes, as well as fostering exceptional journalism that serves the needs and interest of Philadelphia's Asian community; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize the contributions of Philadelphia's alternative and ethnic newspapers and the strong support given them under the banner of the Philadelphia Multi-Cultural Media Network and its new masthead, The Liberty City Press.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the

Philadelphia Multi-Cultural Media Network as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
