WHEREAS, On Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at approximately 4:40AM, Nelson Mandela Myers was walking on 69th Street and discovered a child under the sliding board in the playground clothed only in a wet oversized t-shirt crying for help; and
WHEREAS, The child found crying was identified as five-year-old Nai'lla Robinson, who was under a Pennsylvania State Police Amber Abduction Alert after being taken from her Bryant School classroom by an unidentified woman on Monday, January 15, 2013; and
WHEREAS, With arms outstretched, Nelson scooped the little girl up in his arms, wrapped her in his arms and immediately called 911; and
WHEREAS, Nai'lla was immediately transported to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where she was evaluated, treated and reunited with her mother; and
WHEREAS, Nelson Mandela Myers responded quickly with the utmost care and concern for the little girl he discovered shivering and frightened that Tuesday morning; and
WHEREAS, As a direct result of Nelson Mandela Myers' involvement, five-year-old Nai'lla Robinson is alive and safe again; and
WHEREAS, The recognition of Good Samaritans should not go unnoticed; and
WHEREAS, Through your actions, we know you recognize the intrinsic equality, dignity, and worth of every person; and
WHEREAS, Nai'lla's abduction resulted in an outpouring of support and prayers from the public, including celebrities such as NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and former Xscape singer Tameka Harris; now therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of Philadelphia, hereby recognizes Mr. Nelson Mandela Myers for his acts of kindness and community involvement.
Further Resolved, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Nelson Mandela Myers as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
