Full Bill

WHEREAS, On Thursday, January 18, 2013 Sergeant Godwin responded to a report of a threat made to a student by an unknown male; and

WHEREAS, Through closed circuit television fellow Officer Dupont witnessed the unknown male pass a metallic object to a female student and warned Sergeant Godwin of his observation; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Godwin approached the female student and unknown male and attempted to take possession of the handbag held by the female; and

WHEREAS, The unknown male attempted to take the bag from Sergeant Godwin which resulted in a scuffle between them; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Godwin maintained possession of the bag and fellow officers arrived on the scene and apprehended the female student while the unknown male escaped and was later identified; and

WHEREAS, Upon investigation of the bag Sergeant Godwin recovered a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber hand gun loaded with five bullets; and

WHEREAS, Due to her fast thinking and brave actions Sergeant Godwin prevented what could have been a violent tragedy at South Philadelphia High School; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes and honors School Police Sergeant Tyisha Godwin for her devotion to duty by keeping students safe and school grounds secured while assigned to South Philadelphia High School.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Sergeant Tyisha Godwin as evidence of the respect and admiration of this legislative body for her devotion to the safety of students in the Philadelphia School District.
