Full Bill

WHEREAS, On Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at approximately 6:30PM, Arnett Woodall was at home when he heard a loud crash outside at the corner of 62nd & Market Streets; and

WHEREAS, Sharon Davis, 62, had suffered a seizure while driving her car on South 62nd Street as she was crossing Market Street; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Woodall rushed outside to see over twenty people watching the burning car, which had hit a young bicyclist before crashing into the side of a building; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Davis's sister was able to get out of the vehicle on her own, but Ms. Davis herself was trapped in the vehicle; and

WHEREAS Mr. Woodall responded quickly, with the utmost care and concern for the woman and pulled her out of the burning car; and

WHEREAS, As soon as Mr. Woodall moved the two women out of the way, the vehicle blew up in flames; and

WHEREAS, As a direct result of Mr. Woodall's involvement, Ms. Davis and her sister are alive and safe today; and

WHEREAS, The recognition of “Good Samaritans” should not go unnoticed; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Woodall's natural move to immediate action exemplifies his recognition of the value and worth of each person; and

WHEREAS, Arnett Woodall is a West Philadelphia business owner who operates West Phillie Produce on 62nd Street near Ludlow; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Woodall is nothing short of a Philadelphia community hero, particularly in West Philadelphia; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes Mr. Arnett Woodall for his courageous and heroic act of saving a senior citizen from a burning vehicle.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Arnett Woodall as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
