Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia Chapter) will host the Caribbean Heritage Festival June 14, 15 and 16, 2013 in the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The Caribbean American Heritage Foundation is dedicated to providing a colorful, festive and cultural event for the City of Philadelphia known as City of Brotherly Love; and

WHEREAS, The goal of the Festival is to close the gap between the Tri-State area and the abundance of rich cultural art forms that exist in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The prime directive is to produce, establish and maintain a flow of cultural activities, which exposes the community to the wealth of Caribbean art and music of various Caribbean cultures; and

WHEREAS, Innovative aspects of this project include a Caribbean Carnival Parade, youth art and music workshops and a host of other Caribbean art and related activities; and

WHEREAS, The Caribbean American Heritage weekend also known as Philly Carnival was created for people of National and International Diaspora and other ethnic minorities to express cultural identity and traditions under the leadership of the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Carnival was introduced to Trinidad in the late 1700's by the French, and evolved from the elaborate masquerade balls to the present street festivals and parades. Today, Carnival includes influences from all creeds, races and classes; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby support the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Pennsylvania together with the International Caribbean Cultural Foundation's effort in hosting the Caribbean Heritage Festival during June 14-16, 2013.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Pennsylvania as a sincere expression of the genuine appreciation, admiration and respect of this legislative body.
