Whereas, The School District of Philadelphia has been in financial crisis-management mode for the last several years; and
Whereas, City Council has raised taxes to support the District during the past few years despite the difficult financial times suffered by City taxpayers; and
Whereas, City Council has no budget oversight of the District and the District has not been accountable to the City Council for funding received from the City; and
Whereas, This year the School District has requested sixty million dollars ($60,000,000) in additional funding from the City; and
Whereas, The District has not explored non-traditional methods to enhance District revenues; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Philadelphia City Council calls for the Committee on Education to hold hearings on the fiscal decision-making of the School District of Philadelphia including the School Reform Commission and School District Officials responsible for making financial decisions.
