Commending the United States Green Building Council on selecting Philadelphia as the Host City for the 2013 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo to be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from November 20th through the 22nd, 2013.

WHEREAS, The USGBC's Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building, bringing 30,000 attendees from 90 countries to Philadelphia from November 20th to the 22nd; and

WHEREAS, The green building movement is a global movement, and housing the conference in Philadelphia will bring myriad resources to the City for future prosperity of the region and global community; and

WHEREAS, The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo offers invaluable resources to visiting attendees and City residents alike for networking, continuing education, and exchange of ideas and products for the improvement of sustainability practices, all crucial to global environmental health; and

WHEREAS, The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo provides resources for attendees to be at the forefront of knowledge for creating better buildings, giving people better, brighter, healthier spaces to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, A job fair will be held at this year's Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, linking qualified applicants with employers who share values and creating opportunities for job seekers in the region; and

WHEREAS, The United State Green Building Council is committed to a prosperous and sustainable future through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings, with 77 local chapters, nearly 13,000 member companies and organizations, and more than 180,000 LEED Professional Credential Holders, and is projected to contribute $554 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product from 2009 to 2013; and

WHEREAS, The Delaware Valley Green Building Council, a local chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, works to significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact of buildings on their occupants and on our environment, a crucial goal for the sustainability and health of the region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Commending the United States Green Building Council on selecting Philadelphia as the host city for the 2013 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, to be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from November 20th through the 22nd, 2013.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the United States Green Building Council as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
