Honoring the Shepard Recreation Center Basketball League for its successful season and prevailing victories in all three team age groups in the 2013 Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation District Basketball competition.

Full Bill

WHEREAS, Basketball leagues were created by teams from three different age groups; and Shepard Recreation Center won all its leagues and competed in the citywide playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The 10 year and under age team was led by Donovan “Dada” Rodriguez and Akheir “Peanut” Samuels. The team was coached by John Medica; and

WHEREAS, The 10 year and under age team finished 7-1 in the regular season and won a heart wrenching championship game to advance onward to the semi-finals of the City playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The team finished the season strong with Caleb Jaramillo making two free throws with no time on the clock, seizing the 1-point win for the Shepard Recreation Center Team; and

WHEREAS, The 10 to 12 year age group was led by Zaki Samuels and Donovan “Dada” Rodriguez. The team was coached by David “Woo” Robinson; and

WHEREAS, The 10 to 12 years old team finished the season undefeated 8-0 record entering the citywide playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The 14 year age group was led by Benford “BJ” Jones and Tymair Johnson. The team was coached by John Medica, David Robinson and Enoch Woods; and

WHEREAS, This team won their district competition with an impressive 6-2 record; and

WHEREAS, This team advanced to City playoffs and competed in the finals before their unlucky loss to the Blue Devils AAU team while demonstrating good sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes and honors the Shepard Recreation Center Basketball League for their tremendous success in all three age groups in the 2013 Philadelphia Department of Recreation District Basketball Competition, as well as their dedication to bringing neighborhood children together to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, the requisite discipline and hard work necessary to achieve their goals.
