WHEREAS, Under the direction of Coach John Dunlop, Father Judge Soccer won the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship on October 29, 2013. Judge defeated Lansdale Catholic by a score of 3-1; and
WHEREAS, The Father Judge Crusaders controlled the championship game from the start. After scoring the first goal, Judge dominated throughout to take home the title, thereby redeeming themselves after narrow losses in the prior two championship games; and
WHEREAS, Judge then went on to defeat Central High School, 1 to 0, in the PIAA District XII Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Crusaders finished the season with 20 wins and 2 losses. The team was ranked number one by the Philadelphia Inquirer, second in Southeastern Pennsylvania, fourth in Pennsylvania and achieved a number eight ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Region; and
WHEREAS, Eight Father Judge players earned All-Catholic Soccer Honors. Catholic League Most Valuable Player Honors were given to Joseph Hansen. Ryan Nork and Joseph Malvestuto earned First Team All-Catholic Honors. Daniel Sulpizio, Geoff Degnan and Abraham Kamara were awarded Second Team All-Catholic Honors. Finally, Aaron Povlow and Leonardo Villegas were awarded Third Team All-Catholic; and
WHEREAS, Senior Captain Joseph Hansen also earned Southeastern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State and All-American Honors this season. In addition to his many awards, Hansen represented Father Judge and competed in the High School All-American Soccer game held in December; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the Father Judge High School Varsity Soccer Team on their Philadelphia Catholic League and PIAA District XII Championships.
RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach John Dunlop and the members of the 2013 Philadelphia Catholic League and PIAA District XII Champions as further evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
