WHEREAS, The United States Department of Education has recognized public and private elementary, middle, and high schools through the awarding of the National Blue Ribbon School Award since 1982; and
WHEREAS, Every year, the National Blue Ribbon School award is bestowed upon deserving American schools. Winning this award signifies that the students, educators, families and the community have created a safe space where students can excel academically; and
WHEREAS, Hill Freedman World Academy Middle School, a magnet school educating students grades six (6) through eight (8) has received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award twice, once in 2006 and again in 2014. Students at Hill Freedman World Academy Middle School rank in the top fifteen (15) percent in reading and mathematics of all Pennsylvania Schools based on the performance of all tested students; and
WHEREAS, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy is a Catholic Independent school educating students grades preschool through eight (8). Students at Norwood-Fontbonne Academy placed in the top fifteen (15) percent in the nation in reading and mathematics; and
WHEREAS, Both schools exemplify hard work, academic excellence, and strong community involvement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Council does hereby congratulate and honor Hill Freedman World Academy Middle School and Norwood-Fontbonne Academy for winning the National Blue Ribbon School Award.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Hill Freedman World Academy Middle School and Norwood-Fontbonne Academy as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
