Full Bill

WHEREAS, Anthony H. Gordy was born and raised in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School he enrolled as a trainee in the Philadelphia Sanitation Department as part of the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA); and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gordy completed his training, and was hired first as a laborer where he served for sixteen (16) years and later as a Sanitation Sweep Officer, a position he held for over twenty-three (23) years; and

WHEREAS, As a Sanitation Sweep Officer, Mr. Gordy worked with residential communities to keep neighborhoods clean through educating businesses and citizens about their responsibilities regarding sanitation. He assisted in keeping Philadelphia safe and clean by keeping litter off of the streets and empowering residents to take pride in the beauty of their neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, After over thirty-seven (37) faithful years of service to the City of Philadelphia, Mr. Gordy has retired; and

WHEREAS, In expressing his love of community, Mr. Gordy has been a block captain for ten (10) years. He and his wife Annette, started the A &A Security Company to ensure the safety of residents at community events; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, that it hereby honors Anthony H. Gordy on the occasion of his retirement from the City of Philadelphia Streets Department.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed of this resolution copy be presented to Anthony H. Gordy as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
