The Council of the City of Philadelphia hereby honors, congratulates, commends and thanks June Spring on the occasion of her retirement after 29 years of dedicated and excellent service to the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, June Spring has had an incredible career at Wawa and will leave an indelible impression in the minds and hearts of all customers and associates; and

WHEREAS, June Spring is distinguished for her longevity and quality of service, and her commitment to excellence in serving her community; and

WHEREAS, June Spring is retiring on December 31, 2014, after 29 years of service with Wawa, Inc. (“Wawa”) a bittersweet day for the Wawa family and the City of Philadelphia, who will remember her great work ethic and commitment for all the days to come; and

WHEREAS, June Spring worked to improve and serve the Philadelphia community, and is distinguished for her tireless devotion as evidenced by her commitment to championing charities near and dear to her heart such as The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Penn Vet Center; and

WHEREAS, June Spring forged strong, meaningful connections with state and local officials in order to create positive change throughout the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, June Spring will serve as a life-time example of what it means to support others, as evidenced through her long-standing commitment and support of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce where she has served as a Board member since 2002 and been instrumental in building strong relationships between small and large businesses-- a collaboration that has strengthened the Northeast business community; and

WHEREAS, June Spring has played a vital role in supporting the Philadelphia Fire and Police Departments and their efforts to serve and keep Philadelphia neighborhoods safe through her work with programs such as the Police District Advisory Councils. June's support and admiration for the forces can also been seen in her long-standing support of programs to recognize Philadelphia's finest and bravest through Hoagies for Heroes contests at all Philadelphia Wawa grand openings, Wawa's annual Wawa Welcome America July 4th events and through ongoing departmental recognition programs; and

WHEREAS, The history of Wawa's success and store expansion in the City of Philadelphia and June Spring's career with Wawa are inextricably linked, as June has been instrumental in opening dozens of stores throughout her 30-year career in the Philadelphia area; and

WHEREAS, June spring played a vital role in blazing new trails for Wawa in Philadelphia with the successful development and opening of 11 new fuel prototype stores resulting in more than 500 jobs; helping to successfully transform Wawa's business to larger stores selling fuel adding value and convenience to residents of Philadelphia far and wide. Two of the fuel stores are located on the grounds of both Philadelphia Airports - both the Northeast and the Philadelphia International Airports; and

WHEREAS, June Spring played a key role in inspiring Associates to celebrate the Wawa values and share them throughout the City by Volunteering in local community events including Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and annual Red Cross events; and

WHEREAS, June Spring was and is hereunto a Wawa Values Champion and six-time inductee into Wawa's President's Club, making her a Wawa brand ambassador; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, congratulate, commend and thank June Spring on the occasion of her retirement after 29 years of dedicated and excellent service to the City of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to June Spring, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
