Full Bill

WHEREAS, Social workers help people in every stage of life function better in their environments, improve their relationships with others and solve personal and family problems; and

WHEREAS, Social workers in Philadelphia's Department of Human Services and Community Umbrella Agencies create support circles for youth and their families to enhance their well-being and meeting the needs of vulnerable children. Together they work to devise plans for reunification and permanent housing; and

WHEREAS, One in three families in Philadelphia is involved with the child welfare system at some point in their child's life; and

WHEREAS, Social workers support diverse families in every community, understanding that individuals and communities can come together to improve outcomes for all children and families; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia's social workers and families work together using the Improving Outcomes for Children Program to build comprehensive plans that families can follow to reduce the number of children in the system and bring families back together while still ensuring the children's safety, now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CIY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it declares March, 2015 as National Social Work Month and in particular recognizes the dedication and commitment of social workers in Philadelphia's Department of Human Services and Community Umbrella Agencies.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Department of Human Services and Commissioner, Vanessa Garrett Harley as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
