Full Bill

WHEREAS, Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States Army, the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps, and it has a long and strong link to the men and women who honorably served our country dating back to before the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, The men and women who sacrificed their lives in military conflicts courageously upheld the highest ideals of the United States: freedom, democracy, and self-determination; and

WHEREAS, There were 750,000 deaths during the America Civil War; 405,399 deaths during World War II; 116,516 deaths during World War I; 58,209 deaths during the Vietnam War; and 54,246 deaths during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, All Philadelphians are encouraged to participate in memorializing the men and women who served honorably to protect and preserve our country's founding ideals of freedom and democracy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby remembers and honors the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. military service, in observance of Memorial Day 2015 in Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The United Veterans Council of Greater Philadelphia further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
