Full Bill

WHEREAS, GreenFest Philly is the largest, public environmental festival in the Philadelphia area that encourages the community to learn about sustainable living; and

WHEREAS, GreenFest Philly is an exemplary model of a sustainable event due to their use of solar powered generators, commitment to recycling and composting over 80% of waste, pledge to provide attendees with a complimentary bike valet, and evaluation of all festival exhibitors through the Clean Air Council to ensure they are providing services, information, or goods that are eco-friendly; and

WHEREAS, GreenFest Philly promotes enjoyable ways of learning about sustainability through great food, music, and over one hundred exhibits, vendors, and live demonstrations; and

WHEREAS, Children can also participate through GreenFest Philly’s kids’ corner, and thus start learning about the environment and sustainability from an early age; and

WHEREAS, Other environmental groups partner with GreenFest Philly and teach the public about their related causes, thus raising awareness about various environmental issues; and

WHEREAS, GreenFest Philly connects with local and national communities throughout the year via their website and social media platforms, invites people from outside of Philadelphia to the festival, and thus contributes to Philadelphia’s growing tourism industry and economy; and

WHEREAS, Over the last decade, GreenFest Philly has amassed thousands of supporters who share their passion for the environment and is continuing to grow; and

WHEREAS, In 2009, Mayor Michael Nutter announced his goal of having the City of Philadelphia become the greenest city in the United States; and

WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia also recognizes the importance of this goal and the role GreenFest Philly plays in achieving it; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED

BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and congratulates GreenFest Philly on the occasion of their 10th Sustainability Festival.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Joseph Otis Minott, Esq., Executive Director of Clean Air Council as further evidence of the sincere sentiment of this legislative body.
