Full Bill
WHEREAS, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) is in October and has been established by Congress since 1945; and
WHEREAS, At first NDEAM was only recognized as the 1st week in October which was called National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-five years later in 1988, Congress extended the weeklong celebration into a month celebration in October and it was renamed to National Disability Employment Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, During National Disability Employment Awareness Month employers highlight Employees with Disabilities to raise awareness about the needs of Employees with Disabilities in the workplace as well as to highlight the amazing contributions that Employees with Disabilities have contributed in the workforce; and
WHEREAS, This year is very special for National Disability Employment Awareness Month because it is celebrating 70 years; and
WHEREAS, This year’s theme is "My Disability is One Part of Who I Am"; and
WHEREAS, Council is very proud of this milestone in the Disability Community and we are continuing to celebrate magnificent accomplishments of Employees with Disabilities in the workplace; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council does hereby recognize October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month in the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED
, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to i.d.e.a.l Magazine as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
