WHEREAS, Pat also presently serves as Vice President of the
Philadelphia Council of the
American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO); and
WHEREAS, Pat has served as
Vice President of
the International
Union of Operating Engineers,
Local
Union
#542 and also
one
term
in
the
Pennsylvania
State Legislature
representing the 162nd
District; and
WHEREAS, Pat was
educated in the Philadelphia Parochial School
System
--- attending St.
Thomas
More High
School. Pat also attended the Comey
Institute of Industrial Relations at Saint Joseph’s University; and
WHEREAS, He
serves on a number of Boards and Commissions, including the
Allied
Trades
Assistance Program, Built-Rite Co-Chairman,
Independence
Blue
Cross
- Executive Committee,
Philadelphia
Area Labor-Management Committee
United and the
Cerebral Palsy
Association
of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Pat formerly
volunteered for a number of boards, including
the
Greater
Philadelphia

Corporation,

Philadelphia Urban
Affairs Coalition,

Philadelphia Economic Development
Coalition,
Philadelphia
Bar Association
Foundation,
Pennsylvania Convention Center
Authority,

Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, Pat has been involved in countless charitable endeavors, including Fred’s Footsteps and the St. Francis Inn; and
WHEREAS, Rock Ministries has a special place in Pat’s heart, as his dedication to the group has enabled Rock Ministries to serve over 8,000 children over the course of the past ten years. Pat has remained an influential part of getting those same kids involved in workforce trade jobs and has been instrumental in helping The Rock to build houses for homeless adults and youth throughout Philadelphia
WHEREAS, Pat and his
wife,
Arlene, reside in Havertown, Pennsylvania. They have four; children
Patrick(Shannon),
Matthew(Shonna),Kevin(Ann)and Marie
—
and also nine
grandchildren — Patrick,
Grace, Hannah, Kevin, Matthew, Henry, Connor, Emmet and Lyla. Pat plans to spend his retirement improving his golf game, spending time at the shore with his wife and family and taste testing as many cheesesteaks as humanly possible; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor, commend and express our sincere appreciation to Pat Gillespie for his hard work, dedication, and distinguished service to the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council, the Philadelphia AFL-CIO and to the City of Philadelphia and its’ residents.
RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Pat Gillespie, as further evidence of the grateful appreciation and deep admiration of this legislative body.
