Also naming the 1900 and 2000 blocks of S. Cecil Street "Marsha Moore Way" to honor the memory of Marsha Moore and to recognize her life and memorialize her lasting legacy.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Marsha Moore was a graduate of South Philadelphia High School in 1976, proving to be an excellent product of the Philadelphia Public School System; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore completed her post-secondary education at the National School of Health and Technology. She worked for fifteen years at the 20th Street Medical Center, demonstrating her devotion to helping others; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore loved her family dearly. She was a loyal and faithful wife, and leaves behind a son Khalid Hakim Wadi’I Cooper and daughter Miracle Roberta Moore. Family came first, last and always for Mrs. Moore;

and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was a dedicated citizen of the City of Philadelphia, who spent her career and her spare time volunteering to better the City and the lives of her fellow citizens. She was a vigorous community and civic leader, engaged in improving all aspects of life in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was a longtime employee of the Philadelphia Streets Department, working as a committed public servant in the recycling division; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was also a dedicated advocate for the youth of Philadelphia. She volunteered her time giving out school supplies to those in need and volunteered with the truancy department as a Parent Truant officer to ensure that students were reaching their full potential and going to school; and

WHEREAS, Among her efforts to aid youth in the community, Mrs. Moore founded the Southwest Positive Powerful Advocates for Change, a mentoring group for young girls; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore also cared for the safety of her community and spent time volunteering with the Police Advisory Commission in the 12th Police District. She was a member of the Southwest Philadelphia Community Advisory Group and a representative of Police Service Area 4. She offered her advice and guidance to ensure that those around her could feel safe; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore was a committed member of her faith community. She was a deaconess at her place of worship, the New Spirit Community Presbyterian Church. She spent each day serving the Lord as she best could, reflected in her active community work. She loved her church community and her work with the church; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore worked as a community organizer for Philadelphia’s Office of Housing and Community Development; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore spearheaded the effort to keep her community clean and beautiful. She was block captain of the very street to be named in her honor: the 1900 block of S. Cecil Street; and

WHEREAS, In 2011, Mrs. Moore was brutally attacked in her own home, but she survived and continued to serve her community with fidelity; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Moore’s contributions to the City of Philadelphia are wholly invaluable and her presence as community and civic leader and grassroots activist will be sorely missed; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 1900 and 2000 blocks of S. Cecil Street are also named “Marsha Moore Way” to honor the memory of Marsha Moore and to recognize her life and memorialize her lasting legacy.
