WHEREAS,
Unite for HER
was founded in 2009 by Sue Weldon, a 12 year breast cancer survivor, to raise funds and create
Wellness Days
that provide breast cancer patients with a series of therapies such as yoga, acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition counseling and more; and
WHEREAS, The
Wellness Days
result in breast cancer patients receiving a full year of selected benefits that empower patients, reduce side effects and improve their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, The primary fund-raising event for
Unite for HER
is the Pink Invitational which convenes 3,500 women gymnasts from across the country in Philadelphia to compete and raise awareness and funds in a sign of unity; and
WHEREAS, This 3-day gymnastics competition features 92 club and college teams and is the premier competitive gymnastics event on the east coast; and
WHEREAS, Funds generated at the Pink Invitational, and other
Unite for HER
fund-raising events, annually support 1,000 women in their battles against the disease; and
WHEREAS, 14 hospitals, in and around Philadelphia, partner with
Unite for HER
to improve the lives of women impacted by breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, The Pink Invitational host gym is the AJS Pancott National Olympic Training Center and the original – and continuing - funding sponsor is Verizon; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia embraces this annual event of unique and important partnerships between
Unite for HER
and area hospitals to help women with breast cancer become restored in body, mind and spirit; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That City Council hereby recognize, honor and celebrate
Unite For HER
for its invaluable contributions that support women with breast cancer across the Philadelphia Region.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to
UFH,
further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
