WHEREAS, Public service recognition week has been celebrated during the first week of May since 1985 and is organized annually by the Public Employees Roundtable and its member organizations to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees; and
WHEREAS, The women and men who work for our government tackle some of the most important challenges and opportunities facing our country and the global community; and
WHEREAS, Government employees lead efforts to prevent epidemics and cure diseases; support struggling communities and small businesses to strengthen our economy; promote student achievement and ensure equal access to quality education; provide public safety and many important services while always maintaining a sense of patriotism, persistence, ingenuity and a strong commitment to helping others; and
WHEREAS, During Public Service Recognition Week, we celebrate the approximately 27,000 men and women who have answered the call to serve our City as government employees and we show them the respect and appreciation they seldom receive yet strongly deserve; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and proclaims the week of May 1st through may 7th as Public Service Recognition Week in the City of Philadelphia and celebrating all the men and women who have answered the call to serve our city and our communities as government employees.
