Full Bill
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program grew out of The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s desires to provide meaningful and academically based after school activities for young women in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program teaches young women the social skills, manners and life lessons to develop themselves successfully and with emotional maturity; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program places a special emphasis on educational goals, career planning and involvement in your community for the students; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program is for young women ages 9-15, to gather for eleven weeks and helps build a foundation and network for these students; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program was founded in 2011 and graduated over 82 graduates from nine classes; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program was almost eliminated due to a lack of funding until Collette McBratney personally dedicated herself to raising the money needed to sustain the program for the young women; and
WHEREAS, The Be Your Best program continues to critically impact the lives of their graduates and their families for Philadelphia due to efforts of the students, volunteer instructors, and the generous financial support from their donors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia “Be Your Best” program as an impactful and positive effort laying a foundation for academic achievement as well as career skills for the future of their graduates and their families.
