Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Overbrook Park Civic Association, is an organization of

homeowners, renters, school and library personnel, merchants, and many others

residing or working in the Overbrook Park area of Philadelphia, which includes Lansdowne Avenue to City Avenue east and west, and Ashurst Road to West End Drive north to south; and

WHEREAS, The organization works diligently to keep Overbrook Park safe, clean and attractive by organizing different committees such as Town Watch, Beautification, Block Captains, Zoning, and other projects including assisting the police, planting flowers, coordinating block activities and contacting city representatives about issues that affect the Overbrook Park area; and

WHEREAS, The organization runs a summer camp program for seventy to ninety children. To aid in the assistance of the summer camp program, the organization employs neighborhood youth as camp counselors and supervisors; and

WHEREAS, In the summer of 2015, the organization employed fifteen youths in their summer employment program. For many of the youth this was their first paid job; and

WHEREAS, For the summer of 2016, the organization will increase that number, by employing seventeen youths, in a continuing effort to keep neighborhood youth safe and active during their summer break

now, therefore, be it,

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors the Overbrook Park Civic Association for their diligent work in employing youth during the summer.
