WHEREAS, The 2016 Olney Charter High School’s Trojans Varsity Baseball Team capped a record-breaking season, led by Coach Dan Karlyn, closing out the regular season with 12 wins and 2 loss record. The Trojans dominated in the Public League with a record of 11 wins and 1 loss making them the number one seed heading into the playoffs; and
WHEREAS, The Trojans advanced past Frankford with a final score of 4-1, after a dominating pitching outing from Cesar Loya, to clench the Public League Title, making this the first Public League Baseball Championship, since 1969 to come home to Olney Charter High School; and
WHEREAS, The Trojans were not done after winning the Public League Championship and advanced to play Father Judge High School Crusaders for the District 12 City Championship. The Olney Charter High School Trojans defeated Father Judge 5-4 in a hard fought battle to win the District 12 City Championship; and
WHEREAS, This is the first time since 1975 that a public league baseball team won a City championship, and the second Public League Championship in Olney Charter High School’s history; and
WHEREAS, The Olney Charter High School’s Trojans Varsity Baseball team was led by eleven seniors; Alex Blanco (13), Joseph Gomes (11), Dominic Gonzalez (5), Dawin Horta (1), Luiji Jacquez (15), Cesar Loya (4), Joel Matos (16), Emmanuel Ocasio (7), Giovanni Ortega (12), Henry Paredes (18), Christian Santos (2); now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes, congratulates, and honors the Olney Charter High School’s Trojans Baseball Team and Coaching Staff on the outstanding (17-3) season, finishing as 2016 A Division Champions, 2016 Public League Title Champions, and 2016 District 12 City Champions.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be sent to Olney Charter High School as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
