W
hereas, The brave men and women of our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard demonstrate a resolute spirit and unmatched selflessness, reminding us there are few things more American than giving of ourselves to make a difference in the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, It is estimated that over 88,000 veterans live in the City of Philadelphia and its surrounding counties in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware; and that nationally there are an estimated 91,000 POW’s, MIA’s still unaccounted for; and
WHEREAS, There are numerous local veteran service organizations who dedicate themselves daily to ensuring our veterans receive the benefits and entitlements they deserve; and
WHEREAS, Area veterans have collaborated and formed the Philadelphia Veterans Parade to celebrate and honor the service of ALL veterans, specifically highlighting Philadelphia area veterans; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Veterans Parade provides an opportunity for the City’s public, private and nonprofit sectors to celebrate the service of military veterans in “Philly Parade style”; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Veterans Parade also allows the citizens of Philadelphia and its surrounding counties to publicly demonstrate the pride and patriotism they have for all branches of service; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia Veterans Parade, Inc., and the Philadelphia Veterans Advisory Commission, with assistance of federal, state and local government officials, are dedicated to sponsoring this “Parade of Patriotism” the Sunday before Veterans Day in the City of Philadelphia; now, therefore,be it
RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, T
hat the veterans of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties, Philadelphia Veterans Parade, Inc. and the Veterans Advisory Commission be recognized and celebrated on the occurrence of the 2016 Philadelphia Veterans Parade.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Philadelphia Veterans Parade, Inc. and the Philadelphia Veterans Advisory Commission as evidence of our sincere appreciation.
