Recognizing and honoring one of Philadelphia's most prominent African-American doctors, Dr. Beverly G. Coleman, Director of Fetal Imaging at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, in further commemoration of Black History Month.

WHEREAS, Dr. Beverly G. Coleman is a board-certified radiologist, specializing in prenatal imaging, and is the Director of Fetal Imaging at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Beverly G. Coleman obtained her Medical Degree from Harvard University in 1974. After obtaining her degree, Dr. Coleman did her post-graduate training internship in Internal Medicine at Michigan Hospital from 1974 to 1975. After this internship, Dr. Coleman moved to Philadelphia to do her residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1975 to 1977. Dr. Coleman also did her fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania from 1977 to 1978. In 1978, Dr. Coleman was certified by the American Board of Radiology; and

WHEREAS, Aside from her duties at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Coleman also teaches radiology classes at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Coleman has also authored several academic publications, abstracts and papers on the topic of radiology and ultrasounds; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Coleman is currently a member of the National Medical Association, the American Association of Women Radiologists, the American College of Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America. Dr. Coleman is also the Chair of the ACR Ultrasound Commission, and a Fellow for the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Coleman’s work in the medical field has been recognized by several national organizations. In 1994, Dr. Coleman received the Cum Laude Award from the Radiological Society of North America. In 2000, Dr. Coleman received the Silver Medal Award from the American Roentgen Ray Society in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Each year, from 2009 to 2014, Dr. Coleman was named one of “America’s Top Doctors.” Additionally, Dr. Coleman received recognition of her work from Philadelphia Magazine in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors Dr. Beverly G. Coleman, one of Philadelphia’s most prominent African-American doctors, in further commemoration of Black History Month.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Beverly G. Coleman as evidence of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
