Full Bill

WHEREAS, Awilda Ocasio, the daughter of Aurea Rosario, was born on Christmas Day, 1954 in Nagubo, Puerto Rico. After moving to Philadelphia, Awilda attended Kensington High School and graduated in 1972. After high school, Awilda began her life-long mission of bettering the community that she held so dearly; and

WHEREAS, As a proud mother to Edgardo, Jessica, Victoria, Noel and Erika, and later grandmother to Jadalin, Janiyah, Derick and Dylan, Awilda shared her passions with her family and close friends. Awilda worked tirelessly to restore hope in the lives of any and all facing a difficult time in her community; and

WHEREAS, Awilda was a dedicated member of the Impact Services Corporation team. Her career led to many great strides in the right direction for the Kensington area. Awilda was properly described by the CEO of Impact Services as “embodying the concepts and values of the Heart of Kensington.” She was well respected by both her superiors and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Awilda Ocasio assisted on numerous projects during her time at Impact Services. These projects included revitalizing the Kensington Corridor, recruiting volunteers to deliver lunches to summer camps in the Kensington area, and countless hours aiding McPherson Square Park.

WHEREAS, Awilda dedicated her career and her life to giving back to those who were less fortunate. All the while, Awilda maintained a positive outlook for the Kensington area and allowed for that positivity to spread through her presence. She will be deeply missed by her coworkers, friends, family and many members of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, By the Council of the City of Philadelphia, Join in recognizing and honoring the life and legacy of Awilda Ocasio and hope that the renaming of the 3000 Block of F Street between E. Indiana and E. Clearfield Street will keep her memory alive, as a testament of her service and dedication to the Kensington community through her passion and empathy.

RESOLVED, that the 3000 Block of F Street is also named “Paseo Awilda Ocasio”.
