Full Bill

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman, senior counsel and founder of Morgan Lewis’s emerging business and technology practice, recognized the value of startups and created a model for lawyers to counsel startups at a time when other lawyers were not offering such services; and

WHEREAS, Technical.ly Philly recognized Steve Goodman as being at “the front door of the Philadelphia area’s entrepreneurial community” because he set his sights on fledgling companies that no one yet recognized; and

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman has advised countless Philadelphia startups throughout his career and many of Philadelphia’s most powerful tech leaders consider Steve Goodman a mentor and credit him with their success; and

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman has been recognized as an outstanding attorney on numerous occasions by various legal publications and was the recipient of The Legal Intelligencer’s Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the Philadelphia Bar Association's Dennis H. Replansky Memorial Award for his contributions to startups and the tech community; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Steve Goodman opened his own law practice in 1969 to assist entrepreneurs with their startups; and

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman then joined Wolf Block, one of the most prestigious law firms in Philadelphia at the time, and in 1994 joined Morgan Lewis, crafting their emerging business and technology practice; and

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman is the pioneer of Philly startups and has provided not only legal counsel, but has provided invaluable insight and advice to the Philly startup community; and

WHEREAS, Steve Goodman has been instrumental in the Philly startup and tech community; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is proud of its growing technology scene and is grateful for Steve Goodman’s leadership in the tech community; now, therefore, be it:

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors Steve Goodman known as the “fairy godfather of Philadelphia startups” for his hard work and dedication to countless Philadelphia startups and to the Philadelphia tech community.
