WHEREAS, McDonald’s Restaurants are found in 118 Countries, 35,000 restaurants worldwide, serving 68 million people and employ over 1.7 million people; and
WHEREAS, McDonald’s and its independent Owners/Operators have provided, and continue to provide, resources and charitable contributions to the communities in which they serve and to the people they respectively employ; and
WHEREAS, In 2016 alone, McDonald’s and its Philadelphia owners and it’s operators helped raise over 1.2 million dollars for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, On October 15, 1974, with the support from McDonald's Owner/Operators, the world's first Ronald McDonald House was founded in Philadelphia and has since grown to a network of 364 Houses in 43 counties and regions; and
WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families throughout Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides lodging, meals, and support to families with children receiving treatment at local hospitals and medical centers; and
WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer parents a place to rest and regroup inside hospitals while remaining near their child; and
WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Philadelphia will participate in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Global Day of Change on October 15, 2017, which commemorates the opening of the very first Ronald McDonald House on October 15, 1974 here in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, The Global Day of Change is an opportunity to remind customers, donors, volunteers and communities that, by dropping spare change into a Donation Box at a local McDonald’s Restaurant, they are helping keep families close in their greatest time of need; and
WHEREAS, Spare change dropped in donation boxes helped raise $25 million last year in the United States for Ronald McDonald House Charities and the families they serve; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby proclaim October 16, 2017 as Ronald McDonald Global Day of Change in the City of Philadelphia.
