Full Bill

WHEREAS, Comcast NBCUniversal is a valued corporate partner in the City of Philadelphia and is committed to providing family-sustaining career opportunities to members of the military reserves, veterans, and their families; and

WHEREAS,

The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Nominations must come from a Guard or Reserve member who is employed by the organization they are nominating, or from a family member; and

WHEREAS, The award was created to publicly recognize employers who provide exceptional support to their Guard and Reserve employees. It is the highest in a series of employer recognition awards given by the Department of Defense; and

WHEREAS, The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award was instituted in 1996 and in the years since, a total of 220 employers have received this prestigious award. Today, up to 15 awards are presented each year to employers in three categories, large business, small business and the public sector; and

WHEREAS, For this year’s award, the Department received nominations for 2,575 different employers for which Comcast NBCUniversal received more than 30 such nominations; and

WHEREAS, On August 25th, Secretary Mattis presented Comcast NBCUniversal and the outstanding class of 2017 recipients with the Employer Support Freedom Award, in no small part because of their commitment to bringing on more than 10,000 military hires by the close of 2017; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby by recognize and congratulate Comcast NBCUniversal for being honored as a 2017 Employer Support Freedom Award recipient, presented by the Secretary of Defense for their commitments to members of the military, veterans, and their families.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Comcast NBCUniversal as evidence of the sincerest respect of this legislative body.
