Full Bill
WHEREAS, Founded in 1967 by Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D., the Foundation now has over 250 volunteer-led support groups across the country; and
WHEREAS, The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improving the quality of life for children and adults affected by these diseases; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation has remained at the forefront of research in Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation organizes professional education workshops and programs, along with a scientific journal which enables medical professionals to remain on the cutting edge of this growing field; and
WHEREAS, By collaborating with healthcare providers to improve the quality of care for IBD [inflammatory bowel diseases] as well as by educating, supporting, and empowering patients and their caregivers through patient-centric education and advocacy programs, the Foundation is able to improve outcomes for patients; and
WHEREAS, The Foundation has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health for "uniting the research community and strengthening IBD research"; and
WHEREAS, The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has a constituent base of more than two million people and serves more than 600,000 patients annually through their 40 chapters as well as through their national education and support programs; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of The Foundation reaches more than 103,000 local constituents and hosts various programs to support patients and family members; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is proud of organizations like the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation as such organizations are at the forefront of medical research, advocacy, and improving patient outcomes; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and celebrates the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s 50th Anniversary as they honor the patients, caregivers, and professionals who strive to achieve a future free of Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis.
