WHEREAS, Drexel University formed one of the first units in the Reserve Officer Training Corps, then known as Student Army Training Corps, on the tenth day of October 1918; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception the Program has helped develop students from the Drexel student body into quality leaders for the United States Army and beyond; and
WHERAS, The Program emphasizes the Army Values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage for students in their everyday lives; and
WHEREAS, As a General Military Science Unit, Task Force Dragon Battalion allows Cadets to commission into any of the 17 professional fields within the Army through a variety of two, three, and four year programs; and
WHEREAS, Drexel University has graciously hosted and supported this Program since it’s formation ninety-nine years ago; and
WHEREAS, Drexel University has provided a welcoming community for current military members and veterans, including the 907 veterans currently enrolled in the University; and
WHEREAS, The University has been named a yellow ribbon school and has been consistently ranked as a top “military friendly school” by news sources; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize and honor Drexel University and the Task Force Dragon Battalion of the Reserve Officer Training Corps for providing a veteran friendly community and producing quality leaders from the City of Philadelphia over the last 99 years.
