Full Bill

WHEREAS, Alex set up her first lemonade stand in 2000, with the idea of raising money to help fund doctors with their work towards finding cures for cancer, astonishingly raising $2,000 in one day; and

WHEREAS, In 2005, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, officially became a 501(c) and has since raised $150 million that has gone to funding over 800 cutting-edge research projects, creating travel programs to help support families of children who need treatment, and developing resources for everyone affected by childhood cancer; and

WHEREAS, With the mission

to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures and to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer; and

WHEREAS, The 57th Ward is holding a charity event on December 7th to help raise money and to support for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is based in the Greater Philadelphia Region; and

WHEREAS, This is a non-partisan event hosted by civic leaders Patrick Parkinson & Brian McCann, who teamed up and brought all sides together for this worthy cause, and is being held at Paddywhacks Welsh Irish Pub; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for their incredible work towards eliminating childhood cancer, and the efforts of both Executive Committees of the 57th Ward of Philadelphia for hosting the charity event.
