Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums was

formed in March of 2004 and made its debut in March of 2005

; and

WHEREAS,

The Band was formed to preserve the great Celtic musical tradition of pipes and drums, and to honor the family and friends of the greater South Philadelphia Area in both their time of sorrow and joy; and

WHEREAS,

The Band members take pride in their heritage, their music, and their band, and especially know how to have fun while playing thrilling music and serving the Community; and

WHEREAS, While The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums is proudly Philadelphia-based, it represents our City by performing at such important events throughout the Philadelphia Area as weddings, birthdays, funerals, fund-raisers, and parades including: the Burlington County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Gloucester, the North Wildwood St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hamilton, and—best of all—our own Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade, now in its 248th year; and

WHEREAS, The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums does a lot of community and charitable events out of the great generosity of its members’ hearts, such as benefits for The Green Beret Foundation, The Special Forces Association, The “Wild Bill Guarnere” Memorial Fund, and The 82nd Airborne Division Association’s Hajdak-Mokan Philadelphia Chapter “All American Dinner and Awards Ceremony,” as well as many others; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is grateful for the important contributions of The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums to the rich and diverse cultural fabric of Philadelphia;

now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes, honors, and thanks

The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums for its important contributions to the rich and diverse cultural fabric of Philadelphia

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to

The Second Street Irish Society Pipes and Drums

as evidence of the gratitude of this legislative body.
