Full Bill

WHEREAS, Villanova University, is a private university located in Radnor Township, they are members of the Big East Conference, the Philadelphia Big 5, and are two-time NCAA Men’s National Basketball Champions; and

WHEREAS, The Wildcats had a highly successful regular season, totaling 36 wins and only 4 loses, with 14 of those wins coming from Big East Conference games; and

WHEREAS, The Wildcats breezed their way through the NCAA tournament, with their closest victories coming as 12-point wins over Texas Tech (3rd Seed) and West Virginia (5th Seed); and

WHEREAS, All of the players poured their hearts into the game, pushing harder and harder for each victory, culminating in the 17-point victory over Michigan in the NCAA Tournament Final; and

WHEREAS, Coach Jay Wright has led Villanova for the past 17 years, beginning as head coach in 2001, and leading them to 420 regular season wins, 3 appearances in the NIT, 13 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament appearances, and 2 National Championship titles; and

WHEREAS; Coach Jay Wright joins some of the greatest men’s basketball coaches of all time, as only 14 head coaches have ever won more than 1 NCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, Coach Jay Wright was the recipient of the 2018 Legends of Coaching Award, an award that recognizes coaches who exemplify Coach Wooden’s high standard of coaching success and personal integrity; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Council of the City of Philadelphia hereby honors and congratulates Jay Wright and the Villanova University Men’s Basketball Team on winning the 2018 NCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship
