Recognizing and honoring the Mann Older Adult Center on their 60th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to recognize and honor the Mann Older Adult Center on their 60th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, The Mann Older Adult Center opened in November of 1958. The Mann Older Adult Center is one six Centers under the umbrella of the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation; and

WHEREAS, The Mann Older Adult Center was named after

Fredric Mann, a strong advocate for public service, who

served as Philadelphia’s Director of Recreation and Director of Commerce

; and

WHEREAS,

For

the last 60 years, the Mann Older Adult Center has provided nutritional, recreational, cultural, educational, transportation, and social services for seniors 60 and older residing in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The Mann Older Adult Center’s professional and courteous staff members have substantially improved the quality of life of older Philadelphians by helping elderly citizens maintain fulfilling and independent lives at home and in the community; and

WHEREAS, The Mann Older Adult Center frequently collaborates with local community partners to host promotional events pertaining to health issues including diabetes, cholesterol, healthy eating, fall prevention, brain games, stress management, and chair yoga; and

WHEREAS

, The Mann Older Adult Center works with

Walk with Ease

, a program of the Arthritis Foundation, whose mission is to help individuals dealing with arthritis conquer

everyday battles through life-changing information and resources, access to optimal care, advancements in science, and community connections; and

WHEREAS, The Mann Older Adult Center is a staple of the Puerto Rican and Latino Community, where neighbors come together to celebrate holidays and special occasions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes, honors, and celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Mann Older Adult Center, which has improved the lives of countless elderly Philadelphians. We thank them for their dedication to our City’s elderly population.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Mann Older Center in honor of their 60th Anniversary as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
