Full Bill

WHEREAS, The primary mission of Social Work is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable; and

WHEREAS, Every day Social Workers address the emotional, psychological, economic, and/or physical needs of millions of people; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers help people function better in their environments, improve their relationships with others, and solve personal and family problems through a wide range of services; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers are employed in many different organizations and industries, including private and public agencies, hospices and hospitals, schools and universities, businesses and foundations, military branches and veteran’s centers, among others; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia depends on Social Workers to accomplish many of their functions in serving its citizens. The Office of Homeless Services especially relies on Social Workers to fulfill their important mission of making homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in the City of Philadelphia. Just last year, the Office of Homeless Services assisted 16,549 persons; and

WHEREAS, Social Workers serve a key role in our society. It takes a special person to dedicate their lives to helping the most vulnerable among us. Social Workers must find compassion daily in order to assist people who are often facing extremely difficult life circumstances. We are grateful for the work Social Workers do for our City and we in awe of their dedication to serving others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, hereby proclaims March 2019 as Social Work Month, and encourages all Philadelphians to support the Social Work profession.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Office of Homeless Services as a sincere expression of the Council of the City of Philadelphia’s gratitude, admiration and recognition.
