Honoring the Life of Firefighter Michael Bernstein, a Dedicated Servant to the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia mourns the loss of Michael Bernstein, who spent 22 years in service to the City as a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Michael Bernstein passed away at the age of 46 from a medical emergency while on duty on Wednesday, March 20th at Engine 78 at Philadelphia International Airport; and

WHEREAS, Michael Bernstein was a veteran of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, Following his service in the Navy, Michael Bernstein joined the Philadelphia Fire Department. He worked at companies all over the City, including Engine 78 at Philadelphia International Airport and Ladder 29 in Ogontz; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Kenney ordered that City flags be flown at half-staff for 30 days following Michael Bernstein’s passing to honor him; and

WHEREAS, A procession and funeral Mass at St. Jerome Church in Northeast Philadelphia preceded Michael Bernstein’s burial in Bensalem; and

WHEREAS, Michael Bernstein is survived by his wife, Catherine; their children Michael, Victoria, and Jacob; his parents, Jerry and Dale; and other family members; and

WHEREAS, From his duty in the Navy to the Philadelphia Fire Department, Michael Bernstein lived a life full of service to others. The City mourns the loss of one of its finest and most noble citizens and offers its deepest condolences to Michael Bernstein’s family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors the life of firefighter Michael Bernstein, a dedicated servant to the City of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution be presented to the family of Michael Bernstein as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body
