Full Bill

WHEREAS, On February 28th, Bryce Harper signed with the Phillies for thirteen years, three hundred thirty million dollars, the second largest contract in baseball history; and

WHEREAS, Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Bryce Harper has been a baseball phenomenon since being featured on Sports Illustrated Magazine cover at the young age of sixteen; and

WHEREAS, Since then, Bryce Harper’s track record in major league baseball has been astounding. Awards include Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, Six-time All-Star, 2018 Home Run Derby Champion, and 2015 Most Valuable Player Award; and

WHEREAS, Outside the baseball field, Bryce Harper’s charity organization “Harper's Heroes” helps kids who are battling leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and brings them joy by taking them to a baseball game and interacting with Bryce. Giving them a day away from cancer; and

WHEREAS, Through Harper's charitable participation; competitive nature; dedication to the game of baseball; Phillies fans excitement levels for the new signing of Bryce Harper can be felt on every street in Philadelphia and surrounding areas; and

WHEREAS, We hope the reminder of Bryce Harper’s career will be a successful and hope he enjoys the rest of his tenure in Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby celebrate and welcome Bryce Harper to the Phillies and the City of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Bryce Harper as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
