WHEREAS,
Dr. Lucille W. Ijoy, aka Grandma Ijoy, is the Executive Director of the Motivation Institute of Philadelphia. She is an educator, family therapist, motivational presenter, conference and retreat facilitator, author, and radio personality associated with WURD Radio in Philadelphia
; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ijoy
has a strong record in public service. She was the first Chief-of-Staff for Philadelphia City Council and the Executive Director for the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy. She is a Relationship and Diversity Training Specialist, and has been the keynote speaker at seminars and workshops for a wide-range of intergenerational audiences; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ijoy volunteers at Wissahickon Hospice and the Intergenerational House of Hope and Friendship. Additionally, she is a member of the Delaware Valley Association of Black Psychologists and a graduate and member of the Family Institute of Philadelphia. She also gives motivational talks for women, people in prison, and anywhere she is needed. Her motto for everyone is

WHEREAS, As an Octagenarian, Dr. Ijoy has not slowed down one bit. In 2016, Dr. Ijoy, with the help of Emmy-award winning producer/arranger Bill Jolly, released a viral rap video, “Listen to Grandmomma Say ‘Thank You’ to Obama”; and
WHEREAS, During the 2018 midterm elections, Dr. Ijoy had the idea of making buttons that would inspire people to vote. What started as a small project resulted in the distribution of thousands of buttons bearing the message “I Vote, I Must”; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors Dr. Lucille Ijoy on her many accomplishments and for her energy and passion for inspiring and motivating others to make a difference in their own lives and the world.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Lucille Ijoy as a sincere expression of the Council of the City of Philadelphia’s gratitude, admiration and recognition.
